Administrative formalities prior to departure

Belgian immigration law requires STUDENTS to complete the formalities listed below before departure for Belgium. These formalities will ensure the proper permission to enter Belgium and conduct studies.

Non-EEA citizens

EEA citizens

Belgian Consulate or Embassy in one’s home country or in the country where one happens to reside legally At the latest four months prior to departure Apply for an ‘Authorisation for Provisional Sojourn
  1. Valid passport (with at least one year’s validity remaining)
  2. Permission to enrol at K.U.Leuven
  3. Proof of solvency
  4. Certificate of good conduct
  5. Medical certificate
  6. Declaration signed by you, certifying that you will leave Belgium upon the completion of your studies

To bring your family

No need to apply for any visa. Just bring your:
  1. Valid passport or identity card
  2. Proof of solvency
  3. European Health Insurance Card that proves you are affiliated with a health insurance in your home country.
For one’s family: valid passport or identity card
