Appointment policy

Research associates are registered by the HR Department.
As research associates are paid with a salary (salary scale 43 or 44 (postdoc)), they are subject to taxes and to full social security contributions.

The deadline for the official request to arrive at the HR Department (with all the signatures and all the necessary attachments) is:
  • For EEA citizens: at the latest one month before the start date
  • For non-EEA citizens: considering that a visa application is involved, we advise the Faculty/Department to submit the official request ideally 3 months in advance.
For the visa application at the embassy/consulate in the country of residence and registration at the city hall of the place of residence in Belgium, the HR Department will issue:
  • an “appendix 19bis” for EEA research associates (except for Romanian/Bulgarian citizens)
  • a hosting agreement for non-EEA research associates (and for Romanian/Bulgarian citizens).
