Regulative framework
The enrolment category of “specialisation student” was introduced following a legal change in which the status of “free researcher” was rescinded, which in turn meant that some international students and researchers needed to be reclassified. This category only existed at the Faculty of Medicine for so-called 'clinical observers', and was extended to all faculties following a decision of the Executive Board.Definition
This form concerns EEA citizens who are attached to a specialised education programme for a longer period of time (over three months, though no more than 24 months), with the intention of attaining a certificate or an attestation of competence within a specialised subject area, either with a scholarship or with their own means.Status
Status in Belgium:- EEA citizens can come to Belgium without any foregoing procedures. Once they are enrolled at K.U.Leuven, they must request the EEA citizen’s identity card (blue identity card) from the municipal offices.
- They have the status of "student" and must enrol at the Registrar’s Office as specialisation students. The enrolment fee is stipulated by the university’s governing body and amounts to 208 euro.
- Upon enrolment, they receive all the necessary certificates for their stay at K.U.Leuven and in Belgium. They must present themselves to the municipal offices within 8 business days. In the event that they have a scholarship, the International Office co-ordinates the scholarship administration.
