Welcome to the Bacteriology Lab!

We are a research laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Rega Institute for Medical Research, an interfacultary biomedical research institute of the Catholic University of Leuven. Research at the Bacteriology Lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms involved in protein secretion and the role of secreted proteins in bacterial pathogenicity.

Current research projects include:

Evaluation of Staphylococcus epidermidis surface proteins as targets for vaccine development to prevent biofilm formation.

Targeting preprotein secretion in Staphylococcus aureus by rational drug design and high-throughput screening approaches.

Biochemical characterization and optimization of the Twin-arginine translocation pathway for the enhanced production of heterologous proteins in Streptomyces lividans.

Functional characterization of the plasminogen activator Lpa from Legionella pneumophila.
