Structural Mechanics
General Information of the Structural Mechanics group
Welcome at the homepage of Structural
Mechanics. The Structural Mechanics group is part of the Civil Engineering
Department of K.U.Leuven.
Under general information,
you will find some facts of the group, the staff members and their
coordinates. Practical information about reaching the Civil Engineering
Department in Leuven is also provided.
Research
The research in the Structural Mechanics division is structured along two main lines:
structural dynamics including dynamic system identification and dynamic soil-structure interaction
and modelling of non-linear structural behaviour.
The current emphasis is on structural dynamics and particularly on vibration problems in the built environment and system identification of civil engineering structures.
Teaching
Courses are taught by prof. G. De Roeck, prof. G. Degrande and prof. G. Lombaert. A tool for self-study called Toledo, with exercises and a forum for the students is available.
Publications
Publications authored by members of the Structural Mechanics group are listed. This comprises journal papers, conference papers, PhD theses, etc.Miscellaneous
Items as cooperation with other institutes, conferences, publishers, equipment suppliers are listed.
Consultancy
Dynamic soil-structure interaction became a field of intense research, especially
in relation to aseismic design of structures. The interaction with
the underlying soil can change significantly the dynamic behaviour
of the structure and has to be considered during design in many cases.
Other important applications are vibrations in the built environment
due to traffic, industrial and building activities, and the study
of wind-loads on high-rise buildings.
