The Lissabon Strategy expresses the ambition of the European Union to make Europe the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world, without losing sight of the importance of the social policies that ensure social cohesion. However, because indicators of social cohesion are still lacking, policies to advance social cohesion are rare. Therefore we want to investigate the scientific indicators of social cohesion for the local entity in Belgium. Also, we study the effects of the local social policy on the level of the municipality.
