Project

In the research domain ‘Youth Socialization’ we aim to investigate the relationship between adolescents, parents, their teachers, and other political socialization agents. More specifically, we study the effect of those socialization agents on political participation, political knowledge, party preferences, ethnocentrism and other social/political attitudes among adolescents. To a large extent, the analyses of these effects are being done on data that were collected by the research group itself. We have collected data for the Belgian Political Panel Survey 2006-2011, a three wave panel survey among more than 3000 16, 18 and 21 years olds. The first wave of this panel was conducted in association with Prof. Dietlind Stolle (Canada, McGill University, http://bridgingdifferences.mcgill.ca/en/overview.html). Further, we will also conduct a two wave panel study among young adolescents (aged 14-15) and their parents in the context of the Belgian Parent-Youth Study 2012-2013.
