Arenberg Orchestra

The Arenberg Orchestra, conducted by Donia Surowiec, comprises approximately eighty musicians who work on a varied and surprising programme with great joy – but the necessary seriousness too. They organise a Christmas concert and a spring concert – the highpoint of each semester.

Capella Academica

The Capella Academica staff choir is open to staff members of the K.U.Leuven Association and their families. The repertoire varies widely and includes both sacred and secular music. The choir works on projects with rotating conductors.

Interfak Big Band and Dixieland band (IBB)

The Interfak Big Band, conducted by Bart Preneel, consists of about thirty musicians (students, staff and alumni) who are all wild about jazz, blues, bebop, Dixieland, etc. IBB’s agenda is packed with concerts both at home and abroad and regularly collaborates with prominent Belgian jazz musicians.

Leuven Alumni Orchestra (LAO)

The LAO consists primarily of former K.U.Leuven students. This symphonic orchestra always works on a project basis with its permanent conductor Hans Casteleyn. The LAO often performs themed concerts that stray from well-trodden paths.

Leuven University Choir (LUK)

The Leuven University Choir is a dynamic student choir of about 100 singers conducted by Marleen De Boo. The choir has occupied a distinct position in the Flemish choir landscape for over 40 years. With concerts and other activities, the LUK strives to combine high quality with a convivial atmosphere.

University Concert Band (UHO)

With about ninety members, the UHO is K.U.Leuven’s largest cultural ambassador. Directed by a professional conductor, it guarantees high quality music in surprising presentations. Its annual auditorium concerts are always comprehensive shows in which other art forms accompany the music or renowned soloists are invited to perform.

University Symphony Orchestra (USO)

The USO offers students the unique opportunity to perform great symphonic compositions. The orchestra is conducted with much passion and professionalism by the famous conductor Edmond Saveniers. For 50 years, its programmes have combined monumental pieces with original ideas.
