Monitoring of study progress

Measures concerning the monitoring of study progress and limiting the period of study

  • No passing result or tolerance:
In the event that neither a passing result nor a tolerance possibility was obtained in a previous academic year, the required courses must be re-taken immediately.
  • Binding study advice
Students who have not obtained 50% study efficiency at the end of their first year may re-enrol, if they have received permission to do so. However, they are submitted to binding study advice: they must obtain a cumulative study efficiency of at least 50% at the end of the second academic year. In the event that they do not meet these conditions, any further registration at the K.U.Leuven will be refused.

  • Regulations for second, third and fourth registrations:
EEA students are automatically permitted to enrol a third time for courses, on the condition that they have obtained a cumulative study efficiency of 50%. If the student has not obtained a cumulative study efficiency of 50%, a third registration for courses that have not yet been obtained will be refused in the following academic year. A fourth registration is impossible. Students from outside the EEA who have obtained a cumulative study efficiency higher than 50% are automatically permitted to re-register and only need to receive permission to do so in the event that they have obtained a study efficiency lower than 50%.
