Diploma and Diploma Supplement

1. Diploma

Upon completion of a degree programme, students receive a diploma.  This diploma is issued in the language of instruction which is prevalent in the degree programme for which the diploma is obtained.  If this is a language other than English, an English translation is issued automatically with the official diploma, free of charge.  The diploma is signed by the Rector and gives the official title of the degree obtained by the student.

2. Diploma Supplement

In addition to this diploma, all students receive a diploma supplement.  The diploma supplement provides independent data in order to improve the international transparancy and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications.  It describes the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by the individual student named on the originial qualification to which the diploma supplement is appended.  The diploma supplement is free from any value judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition.

All K.U.Leuven diploma supplements follow the model developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES.  A sample document is provided, though in slightly modified form to ensure that necessary precautions against fraud are observed.  The document is anonymised to satisfy data protection requirements.

The diploma supplement is issued in the language of instruction which is prevalent in the degree programme for which the original qualification to which the supplement is appended, is obtained.  If this is a language other than English, an English translation is issued automatically with the official diploma supplement, free of charge.
