Lecture series about different aspects of Belgium
Learn more about your host country and culture in 8 evenings. If you really wonder what makes Belgium and Belgians tick, then this series is for you!
These eigth meetings with eminent and excellent speakers (journalists, professors, artists, etc.) will give you an insight into Belgian politics, history, economy, gastronomy, music, art, etc.
Most of the events (starting at 8 pm) are free, but for some we’ll ask to register ande to pay a small fee.

- 1st Semester
- Wed, 12 Oct, 8 pm: Belgian politics? More than one year without federal government? Some history and current situation, by Mr Tim Pauwels (journalist Flemish Television) Location: STUK-Auditorium, Naamsestraat 96
- Wed, 26 Oct, 8 pm: Free concert with laureats of the International Queen Elisabeth Competition (singers) 2011, with introduction (8 pm) by Lies Koopman (Lemmensinstituut) (concert at 9 pm); Location Lecture: ‘kleine aula, MTC 3 00.15; concert at Pieter de Somer-aula, Deberiotstraat 24 (meeting at Pieter de Somer-aula-hall at 7:50 pm to go to ‘Kleine Aula’)
- Wed, 9 Nov, 8 pm: Belgian world-famous scientists by prof. Bart De Moor (and Vice-Rector International Policty K.U.Leuven) Location: STUK-Auditorium, Naamsestraat 96
- Wed, 23 Nov, 8 pm: Why is Belgian beer that well known? with tasty samples (limited places; small fee; registration necessary), with Sven Gatz, president of Belgian beer brewers. - Tue, 21 Feb, 8 pm : Belgian economics in an international perspective by Mr. Geert Vancronenburg (VBO-Belgian entrepeneurs Union) Location: STUK-Auditorium, Naamsestraat 96
- Tue, 28 Feb, 8 pm: Slow and Fast Eating in Belgium since 1800 (limited places, small fee, registration necessary), with Prof. Peter Scholliers (VUB, University Brussels); Location: Pangaea, Vesaliusstraat 34; Please register (limited places): intercultural@kuleuven.be; entrance fee: € 3.
- Tue, 13 March, 8 pm: The Fame of Flemish ( Belgian) theater and performing arts Location, by Mr Pieter T’Jonck (architect, dance and theatre critic): STUK-Auditorium, Naamsestraat 96
- Tue, 20 March, 8 pm: Closing evening with stand-up comedian Nigel Williams (UK), joking about Belgium and the Belgians, STUK-auditorium, Naamsestraat 96. No registration. Entrance fee: € 2
