International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (Unesco)

Mon 15 March

  • 12 noon – 2 pm: Official start of the International Students week with Lunch-Workshop with Miao Zhao:  Bridging the gap: communicating appropriately and effectively in a culturally diverse campus! Place: International Office, Naamsestraat 63

  • 8:30 pm: ‘Arriba Bolivia’: Meeting with Celso from Bolivia, working in rural areas in Potosí, on small scale irrigation projects and agricultural development. Celso will tell about his work (Spanish spoken, translated into Dutch). Org. Taorokende  the K.U.Leuven topic house on international cooperation

  • 8:30 pm: Debate ‘Model United Nations on Freedom of religion or belief' international and Flemish students at Pangaea, international meeting centre, Vesaliusstraat 34

Wed 17 March

  • 5:45 pm Student Marathon for all Leuven students: register and run for 5 or 10 km!
  • 6:15 pm International religious celebration, org. University Parish Chapel of Leo XIII seminar, Vesaliusstraat 2  
    In celebrating, people are united across different cultures and nationalities. During this international week the student parish invites Christians of UPIC, of the French, Spanish communities and other international groups to celebrate, to sing and to pray together in various languages.
  • 8:30 pm Movie on CongoKatanga Business’ , English subtitles, free entrance (Thierry Michel) Org. Bana Leuven At Auditorium Max Weber, Fac. of Social Sciences, Parkstraat
    Katanga Business, a kind of political-economical thriller, set in the South-East of DR Congo (Province of Katanga), one of the richest region of the World because of its ore-wealth. The people of Katanga moreover live in the greatest poverty, while the multinationals face the competition of China more and more and the billions of dollars China brings in.   • Trip to Luxemburg, Fully booked, org. International contact Club
  • Buddies-day with visit to the Royal Museum of Central Africa, Tervuren Trip by bus or by bike with picknick in the beautiful park of Tervuren (on invitation)
  • 7 pm: Indian Holi: a festival of colour and brotherhood at Group T. Cultural Events and Dinner, org. Indian Students Association of Leuven (ISAL), € 10, registration via the website of ISAL
  • Diversity Balloon contest in the streets of Leuven: at the public library and on the Saturday market, helium balloons will be handed out. On every balloon an antithesis is written. Walk with your balloon to the public library to pick up  a contest card and let your balloon fly. The one who will fly the farthest and the one with the most original wish will win a price.   Org.
