2012 Patron Saint's Day will honour contributions to the science of ageing
As part of its 2012 Patron Saint's Day celebrations on Thursday, 2 February, KU Leuven will confer five honorary doctorates in recognition of extraordinary academic, social and cultural contributions to the science of ageing. This year's honourees are Laura Carstensen (Stanford University), John Clarkson (University of Cambridge), Roger Coleman (Royal College of Art), John Myles (University of Toronto) and Mary Tinetti (Yale University).

University of Warsaw awards honorary doctorate to professor emeritus Hans Hauben
The University of Warsaw awarded Professor Emeritus Hans Hauben an honorary doctorate on 11 January for his contributions in the field of ancient history. Professor Hauben, a specialist in the Hellenistic history, religious history and papyrology, has maintained close ties with colleagues in Warsaw since the 1980's.

Three-dimensional perception in monkeys can be influenced, study finds
Researchers have identified a brain area in rhesus monkeys responsible for three-dimensional perception. By electrically stimulating brain cells, researchers were able to influence the monkeys' perception of objects. The study was conducted by researchers at the Laboratory of Neuro- and Psychophysiology and led by Professor Peter Janssen.
