Religion in Leuven

In keeping with centuries of tradition, KU Leuven welcomes students and scholars of various cultural, philosophical, political and religious convictions.

Roman Catholic

The University Parish is open to both international and Flemish students, regardless of their cultural, religious or political backgrounds. Everyone is welcome for moral support, counselling, religious education, prayer or serious reflection. Multilingual events and prayer services are held on a regular basis throughout the year.

The English-speaking section of the University Parish celebrates the Eucharist in the Chapel of Justus Lipsius College on Sundays at 10:30 am. The liturgy is followed by a reception, which gives people the opportunity to meet one another informally.

The French-speaking community gathers at the LeoXIII-chapel at 11:00 am on Sundays.

A Roman Catholic mass is held in Spanish at Saint Michael’s Church, Naamsestraat on Sundays at 12:00 noon. Contact

The Louvain Newman Society organizes Masses every Wednesday at 1.10 pm at the Pope's College Chapel.

Daily Masses are held every weekday at the Pope’s College Chapel at 8.30 am throughout the whole academic year. There is also adoration is every Wednesday from 9 to 1pm. Contact

Muslim

The International Muslim Students Association of Leuven has a Student Mosque at Rijschoolstraat 25: daily 5 prayers and Friday prayer in both Arabic and English.

Protestant

There is a Dutch protestant Service every Sunday at 10:00 am at Jesuit Church, Waversebaan 220, Heverlee.

Anglican

The Community St. Martha & Mary's is rooted in the Anglican communion with Christians from different traditions. In worship, we seek an intimate experience with God through the Eucharist, liturgy, prayer and song. Our international, English-speaking congregation gathers every Sunday at 6:30 pm for a service in the chapel of the Justus Lipsius College (Minderbroederstraat 15).

Evangelical

The International Church of Evangelicals in Leuven holds services in the Pauscollege on Sundays at 10:00 am.

Orthodox

The Orthodox Parish of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mattheos has services on Saturdays (6:00 pm) and Sundays (10:00 am) in Dutch and Old-Slavonic, occasionally with some Greek, English or Romanian at Tervuursestraat 56.

Jewish (Liberal)

International Jewish Centre. The only English-speaking Reform Jewish Community in Belgium. Close to Leuven and accessible by public transport. Contact
