In the relationship between theology and European society,
training in theology is a key challenge and an incisive issue that
each country takes up differently. How should we face the
interaction between Christian theology and the world in which
it takes root? How can theology react to the problems of
contemporary society? What paths of dialogue present
themselves? What type of training and education should we
propose in societies marked by religious pluralism?
The questions that underlie this Regional Conference are those
of the meeting of the global network of theology that is called
INSeCT - International Network of Societies of Catholic
Theology, which met in Chicago in June 2011:
1. The location of theology: in university or seminary contexts;
in faculties of theology or departments of religious studies; or
in other pastoral settings?
2. What is the general profile of theological schools in your
country?
3. What general trends do you see in student enrolment?
4. What concerns, if any, do theologians have regarding their
working conditions? (e.g.: competing expectations of academy
and church); or links with other institution.
5. What are the key themes or priorities for theological study?
With special stress on: theology as an academic discipline, or
as a religious science? Theology, faith and rationality.
