Hydrodynamics and sediment transport : fundamental aspects for sustainable development of sandy coastal areas (Rosalia Delgado, Jaak Monbaliu)

The study wants to bring together the theoretical aspects, numerical modelling and fysical laboratory tests related to sediment transport in a sandy coastal zone.
A literature study mainly focused on the combined effects of currents and waves on sediment transport, forms the basis of the theoretical aspects.
The physical modelling make use of the facilities of Flanders Hydraulics in Borgerhout (Belgium) and of the opportunities offered on European scale through the 'Large Scale Facilities program'. Commercial software, supplemented by public domain and own developments where needed, are used for the numerical modelling effort.
