Trip to Grand Duchy of Luxemburg Saturday the 17th March.

Luxembourg City straddles several valleys and outcrops, making the city's layout more complicated. We organise a trip to Luxemburg, a small country, bordered by Belgium, France, and Germany, Saturday the 17th March.

The city of Luxembourg, the capital of the Grand Duchy, is the seat of several institutions and agencies of the European Union. Luxemburg lies on the cultural divide between Romance Europe and Germanic Europe, borrowing customs from each of the distinct traditions.

We will take the highway Brussels - Luxemburg which brings us along Namur and Arlon (227 km). Arriving in Luxemburg we will first drive to Kirchberg, where various European Union institutions, including the European Court of Justice, parts of the European Commission, the Secretariat of the European Parliament and the European Investment Bank are all located.
Kirchberg is also home to Mudam, the museum of modern art designed by I.M. Pei, the architect of the Louvre Pyramid. Next we will visit the Second World War Luxemburg American Cemetery and Memorial. This cemetery is the final resting place of 5,076 American soldiers, including the tomb of General George S. Patton.

You are free for lunch. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from or you can take your picnic along.

In the afternoon, during a two hours guided walk through the Haute Ville, the old town, you will discover, the Grund, a picturesque area located in the valley of the Alzette River, the Bock fortress and the Grand Ducal Palace.  We will end our walk with a visit of the neogothic Cathedral of Notre Dame and the deep crypt, with the massive architecture of the twelve columns supporting the church above, which contains the vault of the grand-ducal family.

The busses will depart from the parking lot at the Faculty Club Tervuursevest, at 7.30 a.m. sharp.and we leave Luxemburg around 6.30 PM and we plan to be back in Leuven by 10 PM
