Chinese astrology : Yin and Yang

For centuries Yin and Yang have been a very important factor in Chinese philosophy and astrology. Yin symbolizes the 'feminine', the susceptibility and mirroring. Yang on the other hand is related to 'masculine' characteristics such as activity and expression. Yin and Yang are strongly connected to each other. The Yin/Yang symbol always has a point of dark Yin in the brighter Yang, and a point of bright Yang in the darker Yin. A constant energy flow streams from Yang to Yin and vice versa. This energy, called 'Chi', is universal and omnipresent. It is also called 'the power of life', the vital life force. If the Chi gets blocked or is sent in the wrong direction, it will stagnate and can cause problems and disease.
Chi can come from different wind directions. The Chi from the South is for instance very vivid and provides new energy. This Chi is very Yang.

The various animal signs are all Yin or Yang , moreover: Rat = Yang, Ox = Yin, Tiger = Yang, Rabbit = Yin, Dragon = Yang, Snake = Yin, Horse = Yang, Goat = Yin, Monkey = Yang, Rooster = Yin, Dog = Yang and Pig = Yin.

Yin
Yin kind of people generally have a good health and are quite self-assured. They are intelligent, independent, susceptible, non materialistic and emotionally stable.

Yang
Yang kind of people are less stable, but generally a bit more optimistic. They love cosiness, are practical and materialistic and often conservative and incline to jealousy.

The years are also divided into Yin and Yang. The Yin years are good years to study, to stay home and to keep in touch with ones inner self. The Yang years are suitable to maintain social contacts, to explore and do business. Years with an even number are Yang, years with an odd number are Yin.
