online discussion about the sense and nonsense of astrology

Sceptics versus devotees

Because we wanted this website to be an online discussion, both parties (sceptics AND devotees) had to be heard. That is the reason why we also interviewed a specialist on a paranormal exhibition.

Furthermore we have made a resume of what our fellow students answered to our questions about astrology.
We asked them whether they believe in astrology and asked them to argue their answers. It was very interesting to see that almost everybody equated astrology with the horoscopes they find in magazines. The most quoted reason for disbelieve is the generality of those horoscopes: they are written for millions of people and are formulated so general that there is always some truth to be found in them. Someone also noticed that different magazines publish different horoscopes. It seems they are written with a lot of fantasy.
More general most of our colleagues do not believe in the prediction of the future, the future lies in our own hands, it is not written in the stars. People who try to predict our future are in it for the money, it is nonsense and they cannot prove anything.

But we also found some reasons to believe in the powers of the stars. Some people are convinced there must be a greater power above us, although that power cannot be expressed in a two sentence weekly horoscope. There are only a few who believe in the magazine horoscopes, simply because it proved to be correct.

Here the exact answers of our fellow students to our questions can be found:

  • Question1: Do you read horoscopes in magazines?
  • Question2: Do you believe in astrology? If not, why not?
  • Question3: Do you think people with specific birthsigns all have similar characteristics?

On this website you can also find some interesting testresults on astrology. This way we also offer you an objective view on astrology.
