| Bert Joris
was Born in Wilrijk, a town near Antwerp, in 1957. He received classical
lessons on violin, piano and acoustic bass and started playing the
trumpet at the age of 14.
In 1981 he became a member of the BRT Jazz Orkest. In 1982, he started
his own group ‘Impulse’. Incontestably one of the Belgian
best soloists, Bert Joris is also appreciated for his talents as
composer and arranger.
He contributed to the repertoire of several big bands with whom
he played. As a first class improviser, he has a resolutely modern
style, especially with the flugelhorn, a captivating sonority.
At the beginning of 1992, Philip Catherine created a new Trio with
Bert Joris and Hein Van de Geyn: their first tour in Germany was
a great success. |
