Biography

The people behind this website:

My name is Tineke Vencken and I'm 21. I'm a student at the kul where I study Media Studies. My interest goes especially out to the courses that deal with the verbal and nonverbal communication between~people and in a larger context the communication between organisations. After my graduation I hope to be able to put my knowledge into practice by working in the communication department of a company.

My name is Michel Baeten and I’m currently in my final year of Media Studies. The reason why I chose this discipline is my high interest in film and art, which is also why I’m writing my thesis on director David Lynch. I come from Tessenderlo, a town on the border between Limburg and Antwerp. I have one sister who is studying architecture.

My name is Koen Reynaerts and I'm 22. I'm studying Political and Social Sciences at the Catholic University of Leuven and I chose to specialise in Media Studies in the year 2000. Celebrity culture interests me, especially the blurring of public and private borders. My musical interest goes to Jazz, that's why I'm glad to participate in this project.

My name is Karel Brone and, probably like most of my fellow students , I hope to graduate in Media Studies in 2003. My thesis deals with the evolution of women on television from the sixties to the present day. More specific I’ll explore in how far there is a correlation between the social manifestation of feminism and the representation of women on television. On the basis of the data retrieved by an analyses of the science fiction show Star Trek, a comparison between the fictitious representation of woman and their real social role will be the chief aim of the research. Alas, one of the unfortunate side effects of the thesis is the necessity of a VCR-television set in my small student room.
