When people think of jazz, they almost immediately relate the subject to famous artists like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. Maybe more names spring to the minds of some, but the point is that jazz will mostly be linked to America.

The idea of this website is to convey the fact that a small country like Belgium also has a very rich jazz tradition. This starts of course with the invention of the saxophone by Adolphe Sax.
Without this Belgian instrument, who can even imagine jazz at all? But the Belgian jazz legacy extends beyond merely the invention off the sax. During the last decades, Belgium has produced (and is still producing) many jazz musicians who have established global fame.

The goal of this website is to give the visitor an overview of the jazz scene in Belgium, which is much richer than just Toots Tielemans. Jazz lives more than ever in Belgium, and by means of this website we would like to give the layman a firm starting point from which to explore the Belgian jazz landscape.
