ALFA

ALFA is the acronym of "Amérique Latine - Formation Académique", a cooperation programme between the European Union and Latin America that aims at enhancing the scientific, academic and technological potential of Latin America through the creation of networks between higher education institution in the European Union and the target area to facilitate the exchange of students and information. Institutional cooperation includes the mutual recognition of degrees and study programmes, the development of ties with the world of industry, and university management. A second component consists of scientific and technological training programmes: continuing education, joint research projects.

The first phase of the ALFA programma has just been concluded. In March 2000 the European Commission launched the second phase of the programme.

K.U.Leuven is currently coordinating one ALFA project (ALFA-LANMOT: Creation of Master's Degree Programme in Technology and Operation Management in L.A.), and participating in a further 4 projects.
