international relationsInternational relations have always played an important part in K.U.Leuven strategy and tradition. The university is a member of a number of high-profile international networks and associations. The International Relations Office coordinates and supports the university's educational internationalisation and development cooperation policies.

 

exchangestudentEach year, we welcome over 600 exchange students for a few months to a full academic year at K.U.Leuven in the framework of various exchange programmes, such as Socrates/Erasmus, TEMPUS, ALFA, PEACE, the Coimbra Group Hospitality Scheme; or in the framework of faculty exchange agreements. The application form, and everything exchange students need to know and do before coming to Leuven and upon arrival in our city is set out on these pages. Students can consult a list of exchange programme coordinators and contact persons.
europeK.U.Leuven's educational cooperation within Europe centers around the Socrates programme with its European Policy Statement. The TEMPUS programme finances cooperation with South East Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States (former Soviet Union) and the North African and Middle Eastern Mediterranean countries. In addition, K.U.Leuven has signed a number of bilateral agreements with European universities, and welcomes young researchers from South East Europe in the framework of the Coimbra Group Hospitality Scheme.
africaK.U.Leuven has signed a number of bilateral agreements with South African universities. The TEMPUS/MEDA programme will finance cooperation with North Africa. We are involved in various development cooperation projects in Africa.
americasTo attract suitable doctoral students, the university funds its own selective bilateral agreements with Latin America (in English or en español). The ALFA programme provides additional funding for projects and exchanges with Latin America. K.U.Leuven is involved in various development cooperation projects in Latin America. The European Commission provides funding for cooperation with Canada through its EU-Canada programme. In addition, K.U.Leuven has signed a number of bilateral agreements with U.S. universities.
asiaTo attract suitable doctoral students, the university funds its own selective bilateral agreements with China. In addition, K.U.Leuven has signed a number of bilateral agreements with Asian universities. We are also involved in various development cooperation projects in Asia.
