International agreements

K.U.Leuven collaborates with leading universities worldwide. Thus PhD students, researchers and professors get the opportunity to spend a period abroad.

There are four types of agreements:

Central bilateral agreements

K.U.Leuven has institutional bilateral agreements with partners in Europe, the U.S.A., Asia and South Africa for the  exchange of academic staff, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Faculty agreements

All K.U.Leuven schools and departments have signed agreements with partner universities of their own choice. Most of the agreements include student mobility, allowing students to travel in Europe or in another part of the world.

Erasmus agreements

All schools offer their students the possibility to participate in the Erasmus programme. K.U.Leuven has exchange agreements with more than 300 European partner institutions. Students can apply for a scholarship. K.U.Leuven uses ECTS (the European Credit Transfer System)for the recognition of credits obtained at the partner institution.

Erasmus is one of the sub-programmes of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) of the European Commission. It comprises the mobility of university students and staff.
