Project Outline

This project is focused on the development of new classes of ionic liquids that are optimized for applications in catalysis and in electrodeposition of metals. Therefore, the ionic liquids have preferentially a low viscosity, a tunable hydrophobicity and a good solubilizing ability for metal salts. The variation of the chemical structure will in the first place take place at the level of the anion. An in-depth investigation of the physical properties of the ionic liquids will be made, with emphasis on the temperature-dependent mixing and phase separation. The applications are mainly applications in the field of catalysis with rare earths and electrodeposition of magnetic samarium-cobalt alloys.
