About Lucide

Today’s society is facing many challenges and opportunities related to diversity and equality.
LUCIDE - Leuven University Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Difference and Equality is aiming to offer an answer to these important changes.

Several faculties and multiple disciplines are performing excellent research activities on the subject of diversity and equality. However, the complexity of societal change requires a multifactoral and a multidisciplinary approach.

LUCIDE is engaging to join forces on research, education and services to society on diversity and equality related topics. LUCIDE will take al possible action to support the societal debate on this matter.

Mission and goals

LUCIDE defines its mission by identifying the following goals:

Locate research output on equality and diversity.

Unite researchers from diverse disciplines to stimulate and coordinate interdisciplinary research initiatives on diversity and equality.

Constitute a corporate common vision on future research activities related to diversity and equality.

Invest in permanent interdisciplinary training and education facilities on the subject of diversity and equality

Dialogue with captains of society and societal actors (government, companies, non-profit organisations, etc.)

Enlarge the visibility, sensitivity and sensibility on research related to diversity and equality

Approach and Methodology

LUCIDE prioritizes the work on the following strategic research lines:

  • interculturalism,
  • disability,
  • gender and
  • age.

Each research line gathers a critical mass of research experts on the interdisciplinary field. Expert meetings enable the experts to illustrate their research findings on the subject. In depth discussions facilitate interdisciplinary synergies and joint initiatives. Dynamics may result in several interdisciplinary tracks such as workshops, conferences, PhD seminars, supportive scientific actions and new research project proposals or publications.

LUCIDE plans to organise a yearly 'brokerage event' in order to intensify contacts amongst internal and external experts and actors on the subject of diversity and equality. Dissemination of up to date research findings would be the main goal of the event.
