The purpose of the named Chair is:
- Allowing an assistant who does his training in psychiatry to get acquainted with or to assist in scientific research during 1 year (full time or part time), a highly respected position for future Psychiatrists ;
- Supporting PhD thesis projects around themes where classical financial sponsoring is unlikely to be obtained (e.g. meaning of life and suicidality in the elderly and geronto-psychiatric patients, students with psychiatric problems, infertility treatment drop-outs, psychosexual development in anorexia nervosa, etc.) ;
- Supporting existing research lines within the psychiatric department and outside the department of psychiatry (e.g. European epidemiological project).
