Doelstelling
The amount which the donor puts at the disposal of K.U.Leuven will be used to help cover the research expenses of the holder of the Chair and to give the necessary publicity to the activities carried out in the name of the Chair.
Prof. dr. H. Heidbüchel is involved in research on the following:
- Atrial remodeling underlying atrial fibrillation development: sheep model of atrial fibrillation + human studies : In parallel with our studies in sheep, we will investigate changes in the NO metabolism in human tissue samples, taken during cardiac surgery.
- Novel electro-anatomic mapping system, based on 3D and fluoroscopy merging: This research area involves MRI-based 3D reconstruction of heart chambers for use during electrophysiological procedures.
- Center for hereditary heart diseases, Leuven (CEH Leuven): This research field concerns the genetic identification of familial forms of arrhythmogenic conditions (long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, …).
Prof. dr. S. Janssens investigates NO-cGMP signal transduction in recruitment of systolic left ventricular function following myocardial infarction and in experimental pulmonary hypertension. Insights from transgenic and cell transfer approaches.
