Doelstelling
Haemostasis is a precious balance between adequate clot formation in case of an injured vessel wall and exaggerated clotting obstructing the vessel tree. The balance between bleeding diathesis and thrombosis, as well as the risk factors involved in these clinical problems, are different depending on the patients’ age.
With the Norbert Heimburger Chair in Thrombosis and Haemostasis the chairholders want to unravel hitherto unknown etiologies of both increased thrombosis tendency and increased bleeding tendency.
They want to investigate the relative importance of these risk factors depending on the patient’s age and the modulating effect of new thrombotic risk factors on the clinical bleeding phenotype in patients with a known severe bleeding disorder.
