Doelstelling
Research in het domein van hypertensie en cardiovasculaire aandoeningen.
Funding will be used in support of the Flemish Study on Environment,
Genes and Health Outcomes (Hypertension Unit, Dr. Jan Staessen, Prof.
Robert Fagard). This prospective study runs since 1985 and enrolled
approximately 3000 participants. Half of the funding will be used to
implement phenotyping in this cohort of left-ventricular structure
and function, using an innovative approach based on tissue-Doppler-imaging.
The other half of the research grant is in support of preclinical and
clinical studies of stem cells (Division of Cardiology, Prof. Frans
Van de Werf).
