Doelstelling

Is to support the activities and projects aiming at improving the medical practice and/or the taking care of patients, to facilitate the continuous learning by healthcare professionals with as final objective the improvement of the patients' health.
Hemophilia care requires lifelong commitment from patients, treatment centers, health care providers and industry. The development and continuous improvement of safe and effective clotting factor concentrates has increased the life expectancy of hemophilia patients in Western countries to near normal during the past decades. The focus of clinical research in haemophilia in the previous decades has been on the beginning of treatment in search for the optimal prophylaxis regimen to provide
maximal joint preservation and minimal inhibitor risk.The major focus of the Pfizer Chair for research and Education on Haemophilia wil! be study of and
amelioration of the actual adherence of the patients to the proposed treatment protocols, safe and adequate (self) infusion techniques and high quality self care performance. The use of the on-line electron ic « logboek HEMO» by the majority of the patients is an important tooi for these studies. Pending questions such as the rationale of continuing prophylaxis in adulthood, adapting treatment schedules to the individual adult patient in order to provide continued safe and effective treatment

taking into account limited resources wil! be addressed. In the growing cohort of elderly patients with hemophilia our focus will mainly be on the impact of hemophilia and its treatment on the management of cardiovascular disorders.
