Pegasus Marie Curie Fellowship
The Division of Molecular Medicine is looking for young, high potential postdoctoral researchers, to apply for a Pegasus Marie Curie Fellowship from FWO Flanders. The Pegasus program supports excellent Flemish or foreign researchers who worked at least two of the three years prior to the start of the fellowship outside Flanders. Within PEGASUS two options are possible:
· Pegasus-long: postdoctoral fellowships of 3 years. These fellowships are renewable once in open competition with the regular FWO postdoctoral fellows.
· Pegasus-short: Postdoctoral fellowships of 1 year. These fellowships are not renewable, but candidates can apply afterwards in the open competition for a regular postdoctoral fellowship of three years. This short fellowship is available under the form of an employment contract (standard option) or a stipend (at request).
We accept applications of highly motivated postdocs with an interest and proven track record in one of following topics:
- Molecular virology of HIV
- Neurobiology of Parkinson’s Disease
- Neuronal stem cell biology
- Molecular imaging
Interested candidates should send an application letter with CV and three letters of reference to zeger.debyser@med.kuleuven.be

The second call for the Odysseus Program
On 15 December the FWO will open a second call for the Odysseus Program. In this call, K.U.Leuven will emphasize type 2 applications. Type 2 Odysseus projects are meant for young, very promising postdoctoral researchers (level of “TT docent” or “hoofddocent”) with an annual funding of € 0,1 to 0,2 Mio per year over a 5 years term.
To this end, K.U.Leuven has a budget of € 2,4 Mio at its disposal.
The deadline for handing in applications at the FWO is 1 April 2012; to facilitate the procedure and selection at K.U.Leuven level, the internal deadline for applications is 3 February 2012; The internal selection of candidates who can eventually hand in a full file at the FWO is carried out by the Executive Committee (GeBu) and the Research Council (OR). The final decision by the Board of Governors FWO is scheduled for November 2012; the start of the projects is possible from 1 January 2013 onwards.
At its meeting of 22 November, the Executive Committee has discussed and approved of the main policy lines concerning this Odysseus call, as well as of a first framework with regard to the operational translation of these policy lines. This is still to be presented for discussion and approval at the Academic Council of 28 November.
Given the deadline for applications of 3 February, I deem it necessary to communicate about the thrusts of this action already at this early stage.
- K.U.Leuven’s main emphasis will be on Type 2 admissions. If an extraordinary opportunity would occur within the Type 1 category (settled, international top researchers, level of ZAP, yearly funding of € 0,4 to 0,8 Mio per year), the application can be taken into consideration.
- K.U.Leuven will put forth candidates for a maximum of 150% of its Odysseus budget. Each Group can present candidates to the FWO Odysseus commission for a maximum of 50% of the K.U.Leuven budget (€ 1,2 Mio per year each).
- Candidates have an internationally competitive curriculum, present a research program that fits within the K.U.Leuven’s research climate and commit themselves to come to K.U.Leuven.
- A general framework for Odysseus projects will be developed
- Odysseus Type 1 beneficiaries will receive the BOFZAP statute, within the framework appointed to the different groups.
- Odysseus Type 2 beneficiaries will receive a year postdoc mandate or a ZAP mandate. The ZAP mandates should fit into the long term strategy of the groups, faculties and departments.
- If the K.U.Leuven budget is not fully spent, a third round of applications will be organized next year.
After the call is opened, further instructions and the necessary documents will be made available through the DOC website.
Interested candidates should send an application letter with CV and three letters of reference to zeger.debyser@med.kuleuven.be
