1. Excellent scientific research is our primary objective; this is our raison d'être. High impact science is crucial; even more important is the credit and reputation within the field we are active in. We perform creative, innovating research. Me-too research is less important to us.

2. Our second objective is to provide professional satisfaction for our co-workers. We believe that satisfied and happy co-workers will perform better. Satisfaction is related to motivation and dedication. Next to individual motivation and satisfaction, we believe that the performance of the group as a whole can motivate our co-workers.

3. There is no sense in making your co-workers sick while designing future therapies for human disease. Our personnel management is humane. We have an open mind with respect to personal misfortune. If possible we take this into account when discussing personnel management. Students receive personal guidance and supervision.

4. We are an academic center. Education, training, teaching, coaching are essential. One is never too old to learn. Everybody can learn from everybody. One respects those that have to be taught. One encourages to learn. Our scientific way of handling ought to be an example for newcomers in the field.

5. The group is more important than each individual. We help each other. One takes responsibility.

6. Molecular Medicine has an open mind. We are part of society. Our research ought to be meaningful. We perform basic research with the long term objective to treat human disease from AIDS to Parkinson's disease. We make our students aware of the societal impact of our research. We try to look at human disease in all its aspects and try to help where possible.
