Students must have a good knowledge of English (either native or TOEFL standards: minimum 250 on computer based test).

Besides the usual entry qualifications for university education in general (a high-quality secondary-level education, excellent reading and writing skills) and for cultural studies in particular (broad general knowledge, intellectual curiosity, knowledge of languages), the following are important indicators:

- a historical consciousness and an open spirit of curiosity and intellectual wonder;
- a strong interest in questions of meaning;
- a capacity for abstract and conceptual thinking;
- a reflexive and critical capacity concerning one's own presuppositions and problems formulated for oneself.
