The Pastoral Care of Women in Crisis Situations: Ethical and Theological Reflections on Reproductive Loss (Infertility, Miscarriage, Abortion)

The problems of women in crisis over their pregnancy as well as the pain of infertile couples are very delicate issues. Pastoral care and counseling are two of the several helping mechanisms that can be used to address such issues. This work is meant to be a contribution to this field, both theoretically and practically. The primary goals are twofold: a) an analysis of the human experience of reproductive loss and the accompanying grief associated with such losses b) Increasing the awareness and capturing the attention of pastoral workers, in order to respond more appropriately to the physical and psychological pain of women through the medium of pastoral care. The thesis will include an analysis of anthropological, ethical, biblical, theological issues and feminist insights.
