OPTEC-MaNet Seminar on “Distributed network estimation and control problems” – Carlo Savorgnan

Wed 10 Nov 2010 16:30-18:00, ESAT Aud.B
“Distributed multiple shooting for large-scale systems”

Speaker: Carlo Savorgnan, K.U.Leuven Optimization in Engineering Center (OPTEC)

Discussant: Bram Cornelis, ESAT-SCD (SISTA)

Manufacturing systems, process plants and networked systems are often composed by several subsystems whose dynamics are coupled through input-ouput connections. This talk introduces a generalization of the direct multiple shooting method which exploits the structure of the problem to achieve a highly parallelizable algorithm. The talk will provide an introduction to nonlinear model predictive control and direct multiple shooting.

Newsflash

Two OPTEC professors have been awarded three "Gouden Krijtjes", the yearly teaching awards given by the organization of engineering students (vtk). Prof. Lombaert was awarded the prize for the best course in civil engineering, and Prof. Diehl the prizes for the best professor and the best course in mathematical engineering (where he teaches numerical optimization). They received these awards at the yearly "proffentap" where experienced students taught them how to draft beer professionally.
