the next week starts with three days of important OPTEC events:
1) please find in attachment the final program of the work in progress meeting on Oct 3/4 where all OPTEC members present their current work in 5 minute presentations. The meeting starts Monday at 9am in the 5th floor of the Computer Science department, room A05.152. Please come all and be prepared to ask (even stupid) questions after each talk - aim is that each OPTEC member knows what each other member does.
2) Also, please find the abstract of the Simon Stevin Lecture by Carsten Scherer on Wednesday Oct 5 at 4pm, on Convex Optimization in Feedback Control, to which you are most cordially invited, this time in the Aula van de Tweede Hoofdwet, Thermotechnisch Instituut.
Best regards,
Filip Logist, Dries Telen, Mattia Vallerio, Jan Van Impe, and Moritz Diehl

Newsflash
Two OPTEC professors have been awarded three "Gouden Krijtjes", the yearly teaching awards given by the organization of engineering students (vtk). Prof. Lombaert was awarded the prize for the best course in civil engineering, and Prof. Diehl the prizes for the best professor and the best course in mathematical engineering (where he teaches numerical optimization). They received these awards at the yearly "proffentap" where experienced students taught them how to draft beer professionally.
