27/2001 Academic position in Molecular Cell Biology

K.U.Leuven invites applications for a full-time tenured academic position in the field of molecular and (patho)physiological aspects of intracellular P-type ion pumps at the Department of Molecular Cell Biology.
The department is internationally renowned for its molecular and cellular research in the domain of signal transduction and cellular communication and wants to extend this expertise to pharmacological, systemic and clinical applications.

DUTIES INCLUDE
Research:
Successful candidates will have a wide knowledge and experience in the field of P-type ATPases in particular those which underlie important human pathologies such as heart failure, and the diseases of Parkinson, Darier and Hailey-Hailey. The candidate will apply this fundamental knowledge to the research on molecular mechanisms and regulation of these intracellular ion pumps. Their physiological role will be addressed via diverse molecular interventions in cell systems and via specific animal models. We are interested in applicants with an expertise in molecular biological techniques allowing the analysis of both the structure and biochemical properties of these pumps as well as their cellular and physiological role.
It will further belong to the candidate’s task to secure external financing, to set up an excellent scientific program of a high international level and to develop national and international co-operations with the department of Molecular Cell Biology. The applicant should motivate his/her added value to the department and the Biomedical Sciences Group in general in a research statement (max. 3 pages).

Teaching:
Accepted applicants will provide high-quality education in courses on P-type ATPases and molecular cell biology in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences and/or in other faculties. They are expected to meet the reigning K.U.Leuven standards regarding academic program level and orientation and to adhere to the K.U.Leuven’s concept of education. A commitment to quality of education as a whole is naturally understood. The applicant should motivate his/her teaching abilities in a teaching statement (max. 1 page).

QUALIFICATIONS
Interested candidates should hold a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.

Qualified candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and very good teaching and training skills, in order to contribute to the research output of the department and to the quality of its educational program. The high quality of the candidate's research should be evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals. International research experience is highly appreciated.

At K.U.Leuven the main language of instruction is Dutch. Successful applicants who are not proficient in Dutch, will be provided language training in order to be able to also instruct in the Dutch language within three years time.
Near-native proficiency in the English language is expected of all applicants.

The appointment will be made at the rank of assistant professor or higher, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

27/2004 – Faculty Position in Bacteriology

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven is looking for candidates with an interest in applying for a full time position in the division of Bacteriology.

Research
:
We are particularly interested in individuals with research programs in bacterial pathogenesis, more specifically in relation to the molecular analysis of virulence factors of clinically relevant bacteria aiming to find new targets to combat these micro-organisms but applications from other areas of research will also be considered. The successful candidate is expected to lead and develop strong, internationally recognized and externally funded research programs. She/he shall also have the interest and the ability to collaborate with other research groups in the Department and the Institute and with the microbiological labs of UZ-Leuven.

Teaching
:
Successful applicants will assume teaching responsibilities in medicine and biomedical sciences, amongst others. Framework

The Institute is a well-known multi-disciplinary research institute (ca. 150 members) with research topics in different fields of life sciences. It is well-equipped with basic and most sophisticated state-of-the-art equipment required for innovative research in biomedical sciences.

03/3001 Two Tenure Track positions (TT) Biomedical sciences in Public Health

The Rector of the K.U.Leuven invites applications for 2 full-time ‘tenure-track’ academic positions at several departements of the Biomedical Sciences Group

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Research:
Successful candidates will be expected to conduct biomedical research in the domain of “public health and its relevance for society” . The research topics should focus on new paths in biomedical research and contribute to the expertise and services of the Group Biomedical Sciences.

Teaching:
Accepted applicants will take on teaching responsibilities. They are expected to meet the reigning K.U.Leuven standards regarding academic program level and orientation and to adhere to the K.U.Leuven’s concept of education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified candidates have very good teaching and training skills and are expected to have an excellent research record that meets high international standards. They are willing to promote and to contribute to the development of their research areas in close interaction with the existing research domains within the Biomedical Sciences Group.

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree (medical, biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences, kinesiology, rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy or other relevant areas). The candidates earned their PhD degree at least three full years and no more than seven full years by the time they start their appointment

Proficiency in the English language is expected. At K.U.Leuven the main language of instruction is Dutch. Successful applicants who are not proficient in Dutch are expected to acquire this language sufficiently well  in order to be able to also instruct in Dutch within three years time. In order to achieve this, specific language training programs will be offered.

Candidates submit a research program defined in max. five pages. The program spans a five year period and situates the research proposal in the above described duties. It also indicates the possible joint ventures within the Biomedical Sciences Group. The progam will be part of the evaluation criteria of the tenure track position.

The candidates will present their program to the experts advising the direction of the Biomedical Sciences Group in a public seminar.

27/2024- Academic position in Nutrition KULeuven

The K.U.Leuven invites applications for a full-time position at the department of Nutrition. As a member of the Senior Academic Staff you will provide high-quality education on Nutrition. Moreover you will perform research in domains concerning Nutrition, Obesity and Metabolism and will be available for campus related public services.

DUTIES
The successful candidate will be expected to perform in an excellent manner the teaching duties that will be assigned to you concerning Nutrition within the faculty of Medicine.
You will take initiatives in innovation of education within the K.U.Leuven and bridge gaps with the K.H.Leuven.
The candidate will perform research in a nutritional or metabolism related research field in synergy with a K.U.Leuven research group.
In addition, you will put give prominence to research concerning nutrition within the K.U.Leuven and intensify the current collaborations.
Moreover, you will support the clinical coordinator of Nutrition at the Leuven University Hospital in the policy of nutrition and obesity at the University hospitals and in the organization of the in-service training of clinical dietitians within the Leuven University Hospitals.

QUALIFICATIONS
Potential candidates should be trained within the field of Nutrition and should hold a PHD based on an original research thesis related to nutrition or metabolism.
The candidate should also be able to demonstrate experience in academic education.
The high quality of the candidate’s research should be evident in his/her expertise in the field of nutrition or metabolism.
Interested candidates should have good communicative skills in their relationship with colleagues, students and personnel.
Candidates are dedicated to work in cooperation with the multidisciplinary nutritional team of the K.U.Leuven and the Leuven University Hospitals.

K.U.Leuven invites applications for a full-time academic position ‘Coordinator Research Laboratory Gynecology and Obstetrics’ at the Department of Women and Child. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual (m/f) with an excellent research record in an area of female reproductive pathophysiology/ who is able to teach courses on biology of reproduction and reproductive pathophysiology/dysfunction (from gamete to newborn) to students at MSc and PhD level

DUTIES INCLUDE
Research:
Successful candidates will support and further expand national and international research collaborations of the department.  More specifically, their role is to actively support and work together with staff members of the Devision of Obstetrics Gynecology in order to achieve scientific advancement of existing research lines in the area of OB GYN (infertility, endometriosis, oncology, trophoblast invasion, fetal medicine, urogynecology, adhesion research, ….). In addition they will be expected to develop an excellent research program of their own and to achieve a scientific output that adheres to the highest international standards.

Teaching:
Accepted applicants will take on teaching responsibilities in biology of reproduction and reproductive pathophysiology/dysfunction  (from gamete to newborn) in the Faculty of Medicine and/or in other faculties.
