Faculty Position in Bacteriology

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven is looking for candidates with an interest in applying for a full time position in the division of Bacteriology.

Research:
We are particularly interested in individuals with research programs in bacterial pathogenesis in combination with molecular biology, more specifically in relation to the molecular analysis of target factors of clinically relevant bacteria aiming to develop new antibacterial tools (antibiotics, vaccines) to combat these micro-organisms. Applications from other areas of research will also be considered. The successful candidate is expected to lead and develop strong, internationally recognized and externally funded research programs. She/he shall also have the interest and the ability to collaborate with other research groups in the Department and the Institute and with the microbiological labs of UZ-Leuven.

Teaching:
Successful applicants will assume teaching responsibilities in medicine and biomedical sciences, amongst others. They are expected to meet the current K.U.Leuven standards regarding academic program level and orientation and to adhere to K.U.Leuven’s concept of education. A commitment to quality of education as a whole is expected.

Framework:
The Department is located in the Rega Institute for Medical Research and consists of highly collaborative, research-intensive laboratories with an outstanding international reputation in different fields of Microbiology, Immunology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. http://www.kuleuven.be/rega/rei/). The Institute is a well-known multi-disciplinary research institute (ca. 150 members) with research topics in different fields of life sciences. It is well-equipped with basic and most sophisticated state-of-the-art equipment required for innovative research in biomedical sciences.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and teaching skills, so as to contribute to the research track of the department and to the quality of its educational program. The high quality of the candidate's research should be evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He/she should also have shown to be able to obtain external financing.

At K.U.Leuven, the main language of instruction is Dutch. Successful applicants, who are not proficient in Dutch, will be provided with language training, to enable instruction in the Dutch language within a reasonable time period.
Near-native proficiency in the English language is expected of all applicants.

27/2011 - Academic position in Epidemiology

K.U.Leuven invites applications for a full-time tenured academic position in Epidemiology at the Department of Public Health. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual (m/f) with an excellent research record in Epidemiology, who is able to teach courses in this and related areas.

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Research:
Successful candidates will explore and coordinate existing initiatives in Epidemiology within the Department of Public Health. Furthermore, they are expected to enhance existing national and international collaboration and to take new initiatives regarding interdisciplinary collaboration of the highest level. In addition, they will develop research programs, and secure excellence in research output of internationally recognized quality, in the area of epidemiological field studies as well as methodological work.
 
Teaching:
Accepted applicants will take on teaching responsibilities in medicine and biomedical sciences, amongst others. They are expected to meet the prevailing K.U.Leuven standards regarding academic program level and orientation and to adhere to the K.U.Leuven’s concept of education.

Service:
Candidates should have demonstrable experience with scientific consultancy and interdisciplinary collaboration, with partners from academia, the government, and/or industry.  

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should hold a  Ph.D. or doctoral degree on an epidemiology-related topic. Qualified candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and very good teaching and training skills, in order to contribute to the research output of the department and to the quality of its educational programs. The high quality of the candidate's research should be evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals. International research experience is highly appreciated. Successful candidates have got proven experience and research output in clinical and/or population epidemiology, have experience with field studies, and have a solid methodological knowledge of epidemiology and medical statistics.   

At K.U.Leuven the teaching language is Dutch. Successful applicants who are not proficient in Dutch, will be provided language training in order to be able to also teach  in  Dutch within three years time. Proficiency in the English language is expected from all applicants.

27/2020 - Academic position in Cell Metabolism

K.U.Leuven invites applications for a 10% temporary academic position in Cell biology with a primary focus on cell metabolism at the Department of Oncology – Vesalius Research Center. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual (m/f) with an excellent research record in cell metabolism and molecular cell biology.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Successful candidates will support and further expand national and international research collaborations of the department. In addition they will be expected to develop an excellent research program of their own and to achieve a scientific output that adheres to the highest international standards.

The research aims on delineating fundamental cellular processes to develop novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of cancer.
In principle a tumor can be described as a conglomerate of cells characterized by unrestrained growth. Understanding what regulates cell proliferation is an essential component of developing further strategies for the treatment of cancer. Most notably, proliferation seems to be fundamentally coupled to a cells metabolism.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Interested candidates should hold a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or similar. Advanced knowledge on cell physiology and metabolism is a key requirement.

Qualified candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and very good teaching and training skills, in order to contribute to the research output of the department and to the quality of its educational program. The high quality of the candidate's research should be evidenced by publications in the field of cell metabolism and biology, in international peer-reviewed journals. International research experience is highly appreciated. The candidate is expected to recruit funds to further drive this research.
