Academic position in the domain of 'History of Education'


The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the K.U.Leuven (Belgium) invites applications for an academic position in the domain of ‘History of Education’. The appointment will include academic teaching, scientific research and scientific support.

TASKS
Research

Applicants will deliver proof of research experience in the field of history of education and will be required to establish an innovative research programme in that field. This research should be interdisciplinary, and in line with international developments in the field. In the research programme, collaboration with research at other centres of the faculty and the university should be established. International research experience is highly appreciated. The candidate should be willing to engage him- of herself in attracting financial means for research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an international competitive research programme and to realize output at a high international level. 

Education
The teaching assignment will mainly include courses with regard to history of education in the Bachelor and Master programmes in Educational Sciences and Educational Studies. The applicant will be required to supervise master and doctoral thesises.

The candidate should be willing to take up internal commitments in the research group Education, Culture and Society and the faculty, and to give scientific support to practice and policy, in the fields where themes of history of education arise. 

REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are expected to have an excellent research record that will reflect positively on the quality and standing of the faculty. This quality of research should be apparent from publications in international books and journals. International research experience is highly appreciated.
 
Applicants are expected to have acquired high-level instructional qualities and skills as necessary to train and teach future bachelors and masters in educational sciences and studies. The successful candidate should be prepared to develop these qualities and skills further. 
 
The applicant is also expected to have the necessary relational skills and leadership capacities to work as a good colleague in the team of the research group Education, Culture and Society. 
 
The position requires a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in the humanities (by preference in educational sciences or modern history) or in a related discipline provided that the candidate has relevant research experience in the field of history of education. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the levels of the tenured ranks, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. There will be consultation about the concrete assignments with regard to academic teaching, scientific research and scientific support.
