Odysseus 2012
The K.U.Leuven offers up to 9 Odysseus Type II grants to young, high level researchers from abroad to pursue cutting-edge research in Leuven.
The aim of the K.U.Leuven is to consolidate its prominent position in the EU Research Area.

- You are a successful postdoc or young faculty member with 3 – 12 years postdoctoral experience
- You have a strong track record in research and evidence of teaching skills and academic leadership
Odysseus Type II Grant:
- 5 year grants, 100 – 200 K€/year + salary of the Odysseus grantee
- Opportunity to start your own research unit and research line. Both have to fit within the strategy of the Faculty or Department and the group and complement current research of the university
- Grants are available in the Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Engineering and Technology and the Biomedical Sciences
Position
The opened position may vary: a 5 year academic position, a tenure track academic position or an academic position. This depends on your track record and the policy of the Faculties and Departments
Eligibility
- Type II applicants must have the potential to evolve into outstanding scholars in their field with high international reputation.
- Applicants must have had or still have an academic or other research position at the postdoctoral or junior faculty level outside Belgium for at least three years in the last five years.
- The applicant cannot have a main appointment at a Belgian Institution for more than 1 year at the time of the award (appointment in Belgium started on April 1st, 2011 or later).
The applications will be evaluated by an international panel by a procedure organised by the National Science Foundation (FWO-Vlaanderen – www.FWO.be)

- The application form is to be submitted no later than February 3rd, to the K.U.Leuven Research Coordination Office : wim.schreurs@doc.kuleuven.be
- A first internal evaluation will take place at February 15th by the Group management and the Research Council.
- Candidates who applied for the Odysseus call of 2010 and obtained an A score upon pre-selection, can reapply through a short track. They only need to submit an updated CV and can keep their 2010 score.
- Depending on one’s vita, the project outline and the advice from the local co-promoter, the Board of the K.U.Leuven will make a shortlist of applicants who will be invited to apply for the Odysseus funding to the FWO by April 1st, 2012.
- The decisions on appointments and funding will be taken by the K.U.Leuven Board in November 2012, based on an evaluation by an international committee of referees of the FWO and its internal evaluation. The Odysseus Grants can start from January 2013.
