Novel materials and components: The integration of different epitaxial materials on the same substrate remains the main motivation of the IMEC materials research. IMEC investigates heterostructures of metals, semi- conductors and/or dielectrics. The materials diversity required by the fabrication of microsystems is thereby an important stimulus. The magnetic and optical properties of artificial structures and multilayers of high purity materials are targeted. We process all the necessary infrastructure to produce the structures and to measure most of the relevant properties. This can be made available to third parties.
