Asteroseismology of subdwarf B stars as a critical test for stellar evolution.
|
|
During this project we will perform an asteroseismic study of 3 selected subdwarf B stars. The main goal is to derive an accurate seismic mass estimate for the targets, which will subsequently be confronted with theoretical predictions of stellar evolution models. A successful seismic modelling can only be started after frequency determination and mode identification of all the excited modes in the stars. We will achieve this from high-precision multicolour observations from the CCD camera ULTRACAM attached to the William Herschel Telescope at La Palma and the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Cile on the one hand, and high-resolution spectroscopic measurements obtained also with the VLT on the other hand. We shall treat a single star, a close binary and a wide binary as these are the three end results of current evolutionary models of subdwarf B stars.
