Doctoral research project

Person in charge of the project:
CATTHOOR FRANCKY, member of research team Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT)
Title:
Memory Management for Dynamic, Task-Based Multimedia Applications.
Project summary:
The goal of this PhD is to study a methodology to remove intermediate dynamic data, both in dynamic data types as well as more in general, in a systematic way from embedded software. By intermediate data we mean the data that does not come from input nor is it written to the output.
Therefore, this PhD studies ways to transform the algorithm of dynamic multimedia applications while keeping it's original input-output behaviour. The intent of this is to reduce the lifetime of this intermediate data type, thereby reducing the memory footprint and memory accesses of the application to reduce the energy cost it will have on an embedded platform.  In the case that the lifetime is reduced to 0, the intermediate data type can be removed completely.
