Doctoral research project

Person in charge of the project:
LAUWEREINS RUDY, member of research team Associated Section of ESAT - INSYS, Integrated Systems
Title:
Interference management and networking cooperation for the 4G mesh extension (PHY layer)
Project summary:
Actual mesh networks are currently limited to a small number of hops (number of links between nodes/ or the base station) that restrains the coverage of the network and the number of users within; while the capacity per node is exponentially decreasing with the number of hops and users within the network. The basic idea to overcome those limitations is to allow multiple nodes to transmit simultaneously (spatial reuse) thus reducing the latency of the network and maximizing the capacity per node. The aim of the PhD work is then to propose techniques to maximize the number of simultaneous transmissions in a mesh network with a focus on interference management (reduce interferences) and network cooperation between nodes.
