Person in charge of the project:
DE SMEDT MARCEL, member of research team Literary Studies: Dutch Literature
Co-promotor(s):
COUTTENIER JEAN PIERRE
Title:
The historical novel in Belgium between 1830 and 1850. Textual analytical, cultural sociological and comparatistic study of a nationalistic-didactic functional genre.
Project summary:
The 19th-century historical novel in Belgium has a nationalistic- didactic function. As a consequence, the genre will be studied from a sociological and comparatistic viewpoint. At the same time, it will be interesting to examine when and to what extent there is an evolution from nationalistic functionalisation to literary-artistic autonomy.
