Title:
On education and the public. Studies of governmentality in education.
Project summary:
Using the framework of 'studies of governmentality' this research focuses on the actual relation between government, public space and education from two complementary perspectives. The 1st part starts from the perspective of government and addresses the question how actual government regards and structures public space and how education today is being problematised in relation to this governmental aim. The central hypothesis states that today 'information' is of strategic importance for government and that this importance is condtioned by a particular regime of governmentality. The 2nd part of the research starts from the perspective of education and focuses on how today public space is being objectified and thought within education, howlternative objectivations could look like and what this would mean for educational policy. The thesis of this part is that defining public space within education is becoming increasingly problematic today.
