The reception of Stijn Streuvels in secondary education in Flanders (1900-2010). An attempt to determine the influence of the literary and social context and pedagogical and didactic points of view.

The research into the reception of Stijn Streuvels is aimed at determining in which way the author is presented and taught in secondary education in Flanders with an eye on the chosen audience. The school manual as it is used in secondary education is central as primary source material. The qualitative and quantitative data that are collected from the source material are compared to the literary and social context on the one hand and to the (historical) pedagogical and didactic point of view on the other hand. As a benchmark, the reception of Cyriel Buysse in secondary education in the same period is also charted. The research wants to determine the evolution that took place in the reception of Streuvels, the way in which both influencing factors played a significant part and how the perception and appreciation of the works of Streuvels (and Buysse) have evolved.
