OPK/07/46. Navel-Body-Skin.
|
This is a researchproject in the arts around baked clay. The ceramical process will be approached from an iconological, artistic and cultural-comparative point of view. These three research angles will be involved with each other on the basis of three interpretation models: navel, skin and body. This is also the title of this project. These interpretation schemes originate from an iconological concept, that forms a bridge between the theoretical and the artistic, namely the ?iconogenesis? or the research of the development of the image. In the ceramical medium, and in the artistic process of Trees De Mits in particular, are questions about the kneading, the skin surface of the clay (dermatology) and the relation between the ceramics as a body and the body of the artist a basic principle. These research questions and iconological interpretation models, will be developed and investigated during research trips to Japan and Iceland. The aimed output is the result of two years research dialogue and didactical collaboration between the K.U.Leuven, the University of Utrecht, Sint-Lucas Ghent, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park and the Research Center Shigaraki in Japan.
