Title:
'One thousand and one nights': How Clothing Enforced Power.
Project summary:
It is the purpose of this research to study the appearances of the women of Qajar era, the patterns, colours, and arrangements of their clothing, etc., based on the paintings of the "Arabian Nights" ("One Thousand and One Nights"), to achieve a better and more comprehensive understanding of class differences and power relations through studying the social icons of the era focusing on women and their social position. The research will be carried out with reference to Michele Foucault's theory of power and by the data gathered from the analysis of statistical and conceptual results of the paintings of "One Thousand and One Nights". We will discover how socio-political inclinations and interactions formed and defined social aesthetic concepts in the era.
